FROM INSTITUTE TO ORGANIZATION

 

Formerly known as " Great Lakes Peacebuilding Institute", GLPI has now become a full organization under the new name

"Great Lakes Peacebuilding Initiative"

 

GLPI was founded in 2004 by 4 organizations including:

• Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation  under the Cross (MIPAREC) from Burundi,
• Friends Peace House (FPH) from Rwanda,
• Council for Peace and Reconciliation (COPARE) from the DRC and
• Mennonite Central Committee- MCC USA / CANADA)


GLPI intervenes through 3 main programs:
The Peacebuilding Institute

which grants advanced and high quality courses in Peacebuilding and Development with opportunities

for field practice.

Alumni networking

After the training, the alumni organize themselves locally in structures (chapters) through which they initiate

peace actions in their localities. Through these structures, GLPI continues to support their initiatives.

Research and publications

GLPI, in collaboration with its

professors, partners, laureates and other peace universities conducts research on various topics related to peace and conflict, designs training

modules and other publications on testimonies and practitioners' experiences.

Youth Peace Education Clubs

GLPI in collaboration with institutions such as Churches and Christian Ministries conducts a peace education

program in schools.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

A month-long training with several courses on peacebuilding and organizational and community development, including learning visits, team building activities, and special education sessions.
